From 2027, under the EU’s Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), a Digital Product Passport (DPP) will be mandatory for all products sold in Europe — with the fashion and textile sector as the first priority.
The DPP is a new global standard designed to transparently share trusted product information between customers, brands, and regulators, while reducing environmental impact throughout the entire product lifecycle. It records every stage of a product’s journey — from raw materials, production, and distribution, to use and end-of-life — and completes the story with proof of authenticity, test reports, and environmental impact data.
With a single QR or NFC scan, customers and buyers can access all product information, while brands can achieve regulatory compliance, build trust, and meet their sustainability goals at the same time.
Supply Chain Tiers
* Tier 4–0 refers to supply chain stages, while CARE ID uses DPP Level 1–5 to indicate disclosure depth.
Tier 4 — Raw material stage (farms, mines, etc.)
Tier 3 — Material processing (spinning, weaving, dyeing, etc.)
Tier 2 — Fabric & trims (textiles, accessories)
Tier 1 — Final product manufacturing (sewing, assembly)
